About Me
Hello! My name is Florian, I am currently 19 years old and live near Karlsruhe in Germany. In my free time, I enjoy working on software projects, enhancing my smart home experience, taking photos or playing the euphonium.
My software development journey started back in 2018 at the age of 13 when I took over our KNX installation at home and installed openHAB on a Raspberry Pi. After these first steps into the world of smart home, I quickly added more and more devices and services (e.g. a Synology NAS, Docker, InfluxDB, Grafana) to our home, with the goal to integrate everything into one unified system that runs completely locally and respects our privacy.
Fast-forward to today, and I am studying computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) to turn my hobby into my profession. Besides that, I am an open-source maintainer of the openHAB project since 2022, and I occasionally work as a photographer on local events.
